In October of 2012, Colombia's Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) announced that they were adjusting their adoption procedures and subsequently started conducting more thorough investigations on children’s backgrounds before approving them for intercountry adoptions. Adoptions proceedings in general are being given greater scrutiny by the family courts, causing delays and longer wait times before finalizations. For more information, visit www.adoption.state.gov.
