Ghana Fast Facts: 2010 adoptions: 117 children Estimated Total Cost: $20,000 to $25,000 Profile: 61% Female, 39% are one to four years old; 53% are five years or older, in 2009. Parent Ages: Parents must be 25 to 50 years old and at least 21 years older than the child. Family Status: Married couples and single Ghanaian women may adopt. Gay and lesbian couples cannot adopt from Ghana. Travel: Both parents must travel to appear in court. In-country stay is generally two weeks. Timeline: Approximately 12 months, plus a one- to six-month wait for U.S. to process immigration visa. Ghana Adoption Directory Find an adoption agency placing children from Ghana in your state:
	In FY2010, families in the United States adopted 117 children from Ghana. Children become available for adoption primarily because of extreme poverty of their birth families or loss of their parents.
