Some have special needs (HIV). Parent Ages: Parents must be at least 25 years old and at least one parents needs to be at least 21 years older than the child. Family Status: Married couples and single women may adopt. Travel: One trip, at least one parent must travel. One week in Lesotho, followed by about four days in Johannesburg, South Africa. 	Completely surrounded by the Republic of South Africa, Lesotho is a small, landlocked country and enclave in southern Africa. In 2007, the government of Lesotho suspended the adoption of children by foreigners. In 2009, Lesotho re-opened to adoption with the United States. Lesotho is not a mmeber of the Hague Adoption Convention.
