  • Parent Ages: Prospective adoptive parents must be at least 25 years old and at least 15 years older than the child.
  • Family Status: Married couples of at least three years and singles may adopt.
  • Travel: Both parents must travel to Thailand; time in-country varies from one to two weeks.
  • Timeline: Approximately 24 to 30 months from dossier to placement.

In FY2010, families in the U.S. adopted 53 children from Thailand. In addition to the Department of Social Developement and Welfare (DSDW), the government office that handles adoptions, parents may adopt through four licensed NGOs. Parents may adopt only one child at a time (unless the children are siblings). Thailand is a member of the Hague Adoption Convention.
